On Saturday, we went to the James Reese Career & Technical Center for the first league match of the “Goddard” season, and this time it was the real thing, not a practice. We arrived early to practice our strategies, and by the time the first matches started around 9:30, we were feeling confident. In our first two matches, we won 80–13 and 59–55, but in the third we narrowly lost 34–42. We bounced back in the fourth match with a 60–47 win, putting us at three wins and one loss. For most of the event we were in first place, and we still finished in fourth overall, which made us proud. Our fifth match, though, was tough: we lost 156–69 after our alliance picked up several major penalties. Our driver team was very nervous, and the driver accidentally moved the joystick during the autonomous period, which caused a big mistake, but it also taught us some important lessons. We learned to stay calm and not stress ourselves.
